The Process
Starting therapy can feel like a lot. There are a hundred questions and often a quiet fear that you'll make the wrong call. My process is designed to take as much of that uncertainty off the table as possible so that by the time we sit down together, you already feel informed, at ease, and ready.
Here's how it works:
-
It starts with a simple question: What's bringing you here? When you reach out, you'll share a bit about what you're navigating and what you're looking for in a therapist. There's no pressure to have it perfectly articulated. I'm a professional question-asker — we'll figure it out together.
-
Every inquiry is followed by a complimentary phone consultation. This is a short conversation — typically 15 to 20 minutes — where I can hear more about your situation, tell you more about how I work, and answer any questions you might have. Not every practice offers this step. I do, because I think it matters.
-
The research is clear: the quality of the therapeutic relationship is one of the strongest predictors of outcome in therapy. Which means fit isn't a nice-to-have. It's essential. I take seriously the responsibility of helping you find the right person for your work even if that person turns out not to be me.
During our consultation, we'll both get a sense of whether working together makes sense. If it does, we'll schedule your first appointment. If it doesn't, for any reason, I'll do my best to connect you with someone who is a better match.
-
If I'm not the right fit, I won't simply send you away with a generic list. I'll take the time to provide thoughtful, specific referrals based on what you've shared with me because you deserve a good starting point, not a starting-over.
